Drama
Curriculum Intent
At Challney high school for girls, we consistently strive to help develop our students' confidence and give them the fundamental transferable skills required to grasp opportunities that may come their way in their future. Drama is included in our curriculum to build students’ confidence. It enables them to express themselves in creative ways.
This is achieved through practical sessions designed to give pupils the opportunity to work with peers and express themselves in a safe environment.
The Drama department aims to build and develop confidence in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment through presentations, performances and practical activities. Students develop an appreciation of Drama and the Arts through exposure to a diverse range of performances across a range of topics. Over time, they acquire the ability to communicate a narrative to an audience with commitment through performances and thematic pieces.
Lessons are purposefully structured to allow students to explore and develop creativity through responding to a wide and diverse variety of stimuli.
Drama helps develop personal qualities such as group work, the ability to communicate and cooperate effectively with others. Building self-confidence is at the core of the subject expanding their social awareness, empathy, values and attitudes.
