Reward System

A positive and encouraging school ethos is central to the promotion of good behaviour for learning and positive attitudes to learning. Rewards are one way of achieving this. Rewards are motivational in helping students to realise that good behaviour, while being the expected norm, is valued. Integral to the system of rewards is an emphasis on positive praise, both formal and informal, to individual students and groups.  Our current rewards system includes:

  • Verbal praise, either personal or public, is the most frequent reward given
  • Parents/carers are routinely told of their child’s positive behaviour through informal conversation,  Epraise and parents evenings
  • During lessons staff  particularly look for the skills that are being taught within the lesson, and reward students when they see the skills demonstrated
  • Written or verbal communication with home praising high standards of behaviour
  • Subject stamps
  • Postcards/letters home
  • Collective or individual praise in assemblies
  • Int-form competitions to celebrate successes
  • Assemblies are used to award certificates and for both academic and sporting achievement and positive behaviour
  • Rewards for students with top achievement points
  • Rewards for tutor groups with the best attendance every half-term
  • End of year activities/trips, which reward high standards, including behaviour and excellent attendance
  • House cups for competitions
  • Subject accolades on Epraise
