Library

The Library at Challney High School for Girls is both a physical and digital space for students to discover new worlds, exciting facts and challenge themselves to deepen their knowledge.

The opening hours are between 8.00am and 3.50pm during the weekday and Miss Harlock and her team of amazing student librarians are happy to help you find what you need.

The Library uses two systems. To access the vast range of physical books the Library has to offer, students can use the Library catalogue to find out if a particular book is available.

We also use an Ebook system
https://soraapp.com/welcome

This allows students to read virtual books on their chromebooks or personal devices for a limited time. There are literally thousands of options!

The number of physical books you can have depends on your year, and these increase as you go up through the school:

  • KS3 are allowed 4 books at a time.
  • KS4 are allowed 6 books at a time.

Loan limits are increased over the summer holidays as long as you have no overdue books. The normal loan period is 2 weeks but you can renew items and have them over the holidays. If you have overdue books you will receive a reminder in registration.  A replacement cost may be charged on books that are damaged or lost.

Other activities

As well as borrowing books, the Library is a hub of activity for clubs and subject based activities. As well as being a quiet place to read and study, there are often extra activities to celebrate dates such as Libraries Week and World Book Day. Chromebooks are available for those students who do not have their own when the Library is open.

The Library space can also be used for teaching purposes with both English and Economics booking bespoke sessions for their students.
