Technology for Learning
Our vision for technology for learning at Challney High School for Girls is that we will develop the skills and abilities in our students that will enable them to become well equipped digital citizens in a world that is becoming increasingly technologically advanced.
The use of technology is an integral part of the work of all curriculum areas at Challney, and is an important feature of the work of all students. Our expertise in using technology was recognised in 2020 when we were awarded EdTech Demonstrator status by the DFE. This led to us supporting other schools to use technology to support their students throughout the Covid19 pandemic and beyond.
The school has invested heavily in technology. We are well resourced throughout the school with laptops, iPads, and chromebooks. Most curriculum areas have their own dedicated ICT facilities within the department, as well as computer rooms that are available for booking when not being used for timetabled classes. The library has desktop computers for students’ use and devices are available before and after school and at lunch times in study club. Every classroom is equipped with a state of the art BenQ interactive board that supports teachers to teach innovative, immersive and engaging lessons.
As part of our drive to make technology easily accessible to all both at school and at home, from September 2023 we have started running a 1 to 1 chromebooks for learning scheme with KS3 pupils (see information below).
The School’s e-safety policy relates to the safe and proper use of the internet and email. Students are asked to sign the agreement when starting school. Filtering and monitoring software is installed on all school devices, including those purchased as part of the Chromebook scheme, to help us safeguard students whilst they are online.
Chromebooks for Learning
We are delighted to announce the introduction of a chromebooks for learning scheme for our pupils at Challney High School for Girls. This scheme was introduced in September 2023 for students in year 7, 8 and 9 and will be rolled out across the entire school by September 2025.
If your child is joining Challney High School for Girls in Year 7 in September 2024 or is currently in years 7-9, you will be given the opportunity to purchase a chromebook as part of our chromebooks for learning scheme in the Summer Term 2024.
Full information will be circulated to all students and their parents over the coming months, but for now you can find out some information about the scheme using the resources below.
At Challney High School for Girls we already use technology across every area of the curriculum and the chromebooks for learning scheme will enable us to further develop this so that pupils are prepared for life in a world where digital literacy is increasingly important. Blending the use of technology with traditional teaching methods enhances the school experience for students and enables innovative learning to take place. As a Google Workspace for Education school Chromebooks enable us to maximise the use of tools available to us to create engaging, collaborative, accessible and efficient learning experiences for students. Having a device available for every student will facilitate this both within the classroom and beyond.
The Chromebook Portal will open on 24th May and close on 8th July. Orders can only be placed between these dates.

Google Workspace For Education
At Challney High School For Girls we use Google Workspace for Education. Google Workspace Apps all integrate seamlessly enabling work to be shared easily between teachers and students. They make it really easy for students to work collaboratively on a document with other students or to share it with their teachers. Anything a student does on Google Workspace is saved automatically and students can retrieve previous versions of their work if they want to. A huge benefit for our students is, unlike other platforms, it is free so can be accessed from any device, at home or at school.. .
Google Workspace also helps keep the learning environment secure, helps students to save and access work all in one place and makes collaboration easier. It provides simple tools to support learning.
