Cancer Research UK Race for Life

On 18 October 2019, we held our annual Race for Life here in school.  Once again, the weather was on our side and everyone was hugely excited about their race.  The Year 11 were first to take to the course for their last race with us, followed by Years 10, 9, 8 and 7.  It was so lovely to see everyone and I mean everyone taking part and flooding the school with lots of pink clothing and accessories.  I am completely overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity of every student in the school and the contribution they made, no matter how big or small.  This year, we have excelled ourselves again and raised a staggering £12, 540 for Cancer Research UK and the Breast Cancer Unit at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital!  We are blown away by the amount raised!  To each and every one of you as students and staff, I extend our thanks to you and everything you did to support this cause as a school.  I would also like to extend our thanks to all parents, carers, family and friends, who kindly sponsored the students for this event.  I think that you will all agree in saying that we are certainly playing our part as a school in beating cancer. Thank you :)

Good Causes Week 2020

Our annual Good Causes week took place from 10 -14 February 2020.  This year, we did things a little bit differently.  We used our Houses as a means of ensuring that all students had a voice and say in the choice of charities. This meant we had four charities for the first time ever.  House Brady chose ‘Happy Days’ who are a charity dedicated to giving young people with life-limiting illnesses experience days.  House Ennis-Hill chose to help our local hospital with the Luton and Dunstable Helipad Appeal.  House Jemison chose to support Noah, who help the homeless in our community.  House Yousafzai chose Chums, who support young people and families with bereavement.  The buzz in school was, as always, fantastic with everyone doing their bit to help others less fortunate than them.  Market Place was popular and the array of stalls and talents that some of you displayed were simply amazing. 😊

We raised a grand total of £6340 in this week!  Thanks so much to all students and staff for making this possible!  A big ‘thank you’ to the Heads of Houses for their input and organisation with this too.

Are you looking for something different to do during these lockdown days?

Do you want to keep busy and at the same time do something to help other people?

Then why not take part in the Challney High School for Girls Community Knitting Project!

The idea is simple: lots of people produce squares of knitting (20cm x 20cm) and when school resumes everyone brings the squares together and they will be sewn into blankets to be given to charities.

If you would like to take part in this project, the two documents below give more details.
